Ex-Bengal Min Sujit Bose moves Calcutta HC challenging ED arrest

MillenniumPost 1 week ago

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader and former state minister Sujit Bose has approached the Calcutta High Court challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged municipality recruitment scam.

The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Friday before the vacation bench of Justice Shampa Dutt (Paul). According to the court's causelist, Bose's petition has been listed as item number 33.

Bose was arrested by the ED on May 11 after being questioned for over 10 hours by agency officials. The central probe agency is investigating alleged irregularities in recruitment in several municipalities across West Bengal.

The TMC leader had earlier been summoned multiple times by the ED, including during the recent Assembly election campaign. Following the conclusion of polling, he appeared before investigators on May 1 for interrogation. He was subsequently taken into custody ten days later.

The arrest triggered political reactions in the state, with the Trinamool Congress accusing central agencies of targeting opposition leaders, while the BJP maintained that the investigation was proceeding on the basis of evidence.

Through his petition before the high court, Bose has now sought legal relief against his arrest and the proceedings initiated by the ED.
