New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested five people for allegedly robbing a goldsmith of jewellery and cash at gunpoint in east Delhi and recovered 21 stolen gold chains weighing around 250 grams, officials said on Friday.

The robbery took place on May 3 when Sukumar Dhara, a goldsmith running a shop in Mandawali for over 22 years, was returning home after closing his business. Around 10.30 pm, two armed assailants intercepted him and robbed his scooter carrying 23 gold chains, gold pieces, Rs 3 lakh cash and a mobile phone, police said.

Investigators analysed footage from over 600 CCTV cameras over 10 days as the exact spot was not covered by cameras. Police tracked the accused to a hideout in Jafrabad despite repeated changes of clothes and transport modes to evade surveillance. The arrested accused were identified as Vijay Kumar, Sunil, Arjun, Anand and Harish. pti
