Kolkata: The process of appointing the next Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal has begun with the state government forwarding names of three senior officers to the Election Commission of India.
At present, Manoj Kumar Agarwal is handling the responsibilities of both the Chief Secretary and the CEO. With his retirement due in July, the state administration is keen to finalise the appointment of a new CEO before that.
According to Nabanna sources, the names of senior IAS officers Neelam Meena, Tanmay Chakraborty and Moumita Godara Basu have been sent by the state. The apex poll body will either select any one from these three names or may also ask the state to send a fresh panel of names.
Neelam Meena is currently serving as Principal Secretary of the Consumer Affairs Department. Tanmay Chakraborty is posted as Director of the ESI scheme under the Labour Department. Moumita Godara Basu is currently serving as Secretary in the Health & Family
Welfare Department. Mpost
