KOLKATA: From renovating and modernising government schools to ensuring the supply of safe drinking water to every household and upgrading the Ganges ghats, TMC Baranagar candidate Sayantika Banerjee unveiled her 'Promise Pillar', outlining her development agenda ahead of the Assembly polls 2026.
The sitting TMC MLA has been actively campaigning through door-to-door outreach and party meetings.
On Friday, she launched the initiative at BT Road, with a strong focus on improving Baranagar's drainage system, an issue she has repeatedly highlighted during her campaign. Despite facing criticism earlier for comparing Baranagar to a 'gamla' (container), Banerjee placed a comprehensive drainage master plan at the top of her priorities.
She also emphasised the beautification and renovation of local ghats, particularly keeping in mind festivals like Chhath Puja and Durga Puja. She also assured residents of access to clean drinking water, to be implemented in coordination with Kamarhati Water Works and the SUDA Water Reservoir.
Reiterating her commitment to civic welfare, Banerjee spoke about her 'Positive Baranagar' campaign, which focuses on the sterilisation and vaccination of street dogs, promising to continue the initiative if re-elected. Women's safety also features prominently in her agenda, with assurances of increased patrolling by women police personnel.
"I have had only one-and-a-half years to serve the people of Baranagar, but I tried my best to address key issues.
If re-elected, I promise to further improve Baranagar over the next five years," she said. Recently, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee also held a massive rally in support of her campaign.
