New Delhi: In a move to curb illegal tree felling and strengthen environmental protection, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has introduced a dedicated helpline and online portal for citizens to report such violations.

Residents can now call 1800118600 or register complaints through the Green Helpline portal to alert authorities about unlawful tree cutting. The initiative aims to involve citizens directly in safeguarding the city's green cover while ensuring faster response from enforcement agencies.

Officials said that every complaint will trigger immediate action. A Quick Response Team (QRT) will be dispatched to the reported location to halt any ongoing activity. The team will also gather evidence, including photographs and videos, which will be geo-tagged to maintain accurate records and support further legal action.

The helpline is part of a broader framework introduced under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994. The new system includes real-time tracking of complaints, round-the-clock monitoring through control rooms, and enhanced powers for forest officials to intervene on the spot. Authorities can now stop violations, seize equipment, and coordinate with law enforcement agencies when required.

Highlighting the importance of public participation, officials stressed that timely reporting is crucial for the system to function effectively.
