New Delhi: Two elderly women were found dead inside their house in central Delhi's New Rajinder Nagar on Thursday morning after neighbours and domestic staff noticed a strong foul smell coming from the premises, police said.
According to police, a PCR call was received at New Rajinder Nagar Police Station around 10.30 am from a maid employed to clean the porch area of the house. She informed police that all doors of the single-storey residence were locked and a foul smell was emanating from inside.
A police team reached the spot and entered the house, where the two women were found unconscious in one of the rooms. One body was lying on the bed, while the other was found on the floor.
The deceased were identified as Chandra Kanta, around 80, and Saroj Bala, also around 80. Police said Saroj Bala was unmarried and the two women had been living together.
Officials said there were no signs of forced entry, ransacking or disturbance inside the house, which has four entry points. The Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory team inspected the spot, while CAT Ambulance personnel declared both women dead.
Police said no evidence of foul play had emerged so far, though all angles were being examined. The bodies have been sent to RML Hospital for post-mortem examination.
