The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Meghalaya and other north-eastern states.
This fresh rain spell in the Western Himalayan Region has been attributed to another impact of a Western Disturbance.
The weather agency also forecast a gradual rise in maximum temperatures likely over Northwest, Central and East India, including Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat, by 3-6°C.

Heavy rain alert:
- IMD has forecast fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-50 kmph over Assam and Meghalaya from 12 to 15 April.
- Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to witness rain from 12-14 April. The weather agency also predicted rain with lightning over Arunachal Pradesh from 13 to 16 April.
- "Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 14th, 15th & 18th; Assam & Meghalaya on 17th & 18th April," the IMD said.
- The Met Dept also predicted isolated light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan and Muzaffarabad till 18 April and over Himachal Pradesh on 17 and 18 April.
- The IMD forecast isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30 km/h over Interior Karnataka on 15 and 16 April; with lightning over Kerala and Mahe on 13 April; Coastal and South Interior Karnataka till 16 April.
Temperature change:
- Starting 12 April, the Met Dept said a gradual rise in the maximum temperatures will be experienced over Northwest India - Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and more. The mercury is expected to rise by 4-6 °C till 11 April.
- In Madhya Pradesh, the maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 3-5°C till 15 April. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh to experience a 2-3°C rise in temperature.
- The East Indian states, such as Bihar and Jharkhand, will experience a gradual rise of 3-5°C in maximum temperatures till 16 April.
- Gujarat and Maharashtra are likely to witness a 2-3°C increase in maximum temperatures in the next few days.
- IMD has forecast heavy rain over northeast India, and hence, no significant change is expected over the area till 13 April, and a gradual rise in temperature by 2-3°C is expected from 14 to 18 April.
Heat wave warning:
- The weather agency has predicted heat wave conditions in isolated pockets of Saurashtra and Kutch on Monday, 13 April.
- Odisha is expected to experience a heat wave from 14 to 16 April; Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from 16 to 18 April; and Marathawada on 16 April.
- Hot and humid conditions are expected in isolated pockets over Odisha, Gujarat State, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema during the next 6 days; Gangetic West Bengal during 14 to 18 April; Madhya Maharashtra during 13-15 April; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka during 12-14 April.
Delhi forecast today
Delhi is expected to have a clear sky on Monday, 13 April, according to the IMD.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in the capital city are likely to be in the range of 36°C to 38°C and 18°C to 20°C, respectively.
"The minimum temperature will be below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at most places, and maximum temperatures will be near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) at most places over Delhi."
Delhi is also likely to get sustained surface wind speeds of 15-25 kmph, occasionally gusting to 35 kmph, during the daytime.
"Predominant surface wind is likely to be from the northwest direction with surface wind speed reaching up to 15 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will increase, becoming less than 20 kmph from the northwest direction during the afternoon," IMD said. "Twind speed gradually decreases, becoming less than 15 kmph from the north direction during evening and night."
