The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned against soaring mercury in the coming days. As per the latest forecast, it is likely that Northwest India may witness a sharp spike in temperature of around 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, while East and Central India may see a 3 to 5 degrees Celsius increase in temperature this week.
Temperatures likely to stay above normal in the coming days, IMD said.
"Gradual rise in maximum temperatures likely over Northwest India by 6-8°C; 3-5°C over East India and Central India during the week. As a result, maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal over these region" after 13 April, the weather office said in its weather bulletin dated 11 April.
Western Himalayan Region can brace for fresh Western Disturbance impact which is expected to bring wet spells from 15 April 2026. Prevailing atmospheric conditions indicate that Assam and Meghalaya can expect "light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning gusty winds (speed reaching 30-50) till 14 April while Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may witness lightning till 15 April.
Forecast for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for 12 April predicts isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30 - 40 gusting to 50 kmph).

Moving to South Peninsular India, we find that isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds is likely over North Interior Karnataka on 14 and 15 April. Similar weather conditions are likely in South Interior Karnataka over the next three days. Meanwhile, Kerala is set to witness lightning till 13 April while Coastal Karnataka may see such weather phenomenon in the coming three days.
IMD issues heat wave and hot and humid weather warning:
Predicting heat wave conditions in isolated pockets of Chhattisgarh from 14 April till 17 April, IMD said, "Hot & humid conditions very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Gangetic West Bengal during 14th - 17th; Odisha, Saurashtra & Kutch, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during 11th - 17th; Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 11th & 12th; Gujarat Region 12th -17th; Jharkhand during 14th -17th April."
Besides this, Odisha residents can expect heat wave conditions on 13 and 14 April while East Madhya Pradesh can expect the same on 16 and 17 April.
Delhi weather today
The residents of national capital can expect mainly clear sky with no weather alert for 12 April nor for the coming 5 days.
"Strong surface wind speed reaching 15-25 kmph occasionally gusting to 35 kmph during the daytime. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 35°C to 37°C and 18°C to 20°C respectively. The minimum temperature will be below normal (-1.5°C to -3.0°C) at most places, and maximum temperatures will be near normal (1.5°C to -1.5°C) at most places over Delhi," the Meteorological Department said.
