Gadar 2 wasn't just a hit-it was a phenomenon, collecting ₹525 crore nett in India.
Now he's back with Jaat, an action thriller.
But can it match the craze of Gadar 2? Will people rush to the theatres or will the film struggle to make an impact?
SRK, Salman Should Go Big B's Way? Most Illogical?
Gadar 2 opened with ₹40 crore, the highest of Deol's career. Jaat is tracking for a ₹10-13 crore opening, with a chance to touch ₹15 crore if advance bookings are good.
This is a good start but far from Gadar 2's massive opening. But a double digit opening would still be a good comeback for Deol post Gadar 2.
Horror Comedy with Sikandar: Stree's Cheap Copy?
The film has a lot going for it. The trailer has struck a chord, Deol is in an intense action packed role. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, known for mass entertainers and backed by Mythri Movie Makers, the production values are big.
With Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh and Jagapati Babu in the cast, Jaat looks like a complete package for mass audience.
Sikandar Advances: Shocking Compared to Jawan
Unlike Gadar 2 which had a strong nostalgia factor and an Independence Day release, Jaat is a new story releasing on a regular weekend.
Plus it has tough competition from Prabhas' The Raja Saab which could affect the collections especially in the South. Will Jaat be able to pull in the audience despite these hurdles?
A Gadar 2 level blockbuster is unlikely but Jaat still has a chance to succeed. A double digit opening is possible but long term box office success will depend on the audience reception.
If the action and drama works, Jaat could be a surprise winner. Will Sunny Deol's magic work again? The box office will decide!
