Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati's much hyped sequel Akhanda 2 has now been officially and indefinitely postponed. There was early talk that the film would still go ahead with its U.S. premieres and delayed India release on Friday.
The team has now confirmed that everything is on hold, and a new date will be announced later.
This comes as a shock to the trade and audiences because the first part of Akhanda was a huge blockbuster, and no one would expect a sequel to face financial issues significant enough to force a postponement.
The reasons appear to be financial issues tied to 14 Reels Plus, their past projects, and pending amounts from distribution for Akhanda 2. Although the film was said to be a table profit venture, financial and distribution challenges seem to have forced the decision.
The makers made the right call by cancelling the U.S. premieres instead of going ahead with them and then attempting a delayed India release. It is better to pause completely. Hopefully the team resolves the financial roadblocks soon and announces a fresh date.
