In recent times, many big Telugu movies are facing a common problem, late advance bookings in Telugu states. The main reasons are delays in post-production work and late government approvals for increased ticket prices and extra shows.
Because of this poor planning, bookings are either opening very late or sometimes just a day or two before release. While makers hope to earn more with increased ticket rates, the last-minute booking delays are actually causing big losses.
There is also another issue with overseas releases. If movie content also known as KDMs is not sent on time, premieres get cancelled. This recently happened with Pawan Kalyan's film OG, where several shows in Canada and other countries were cancelled due to late delivery. However, for Akhanda 2, the makers planned better. They sent all KDMs four days before release and overseas distributors appreciated this.
In Andhra Pradesh also, bookings started on a healthy note three days before release as the GO was passed quickly.
But in Telangana, Akhanda 2 once again faced the same problem as other films. The GO also known as government permission for extra shows and ticket hikes was not issued on time. Producers expected bookings to start by Wednesday evening, but even by late night there was no approval. As a result, fans waited the whole day refreshing booking apps without success and this created frustration and negative buzz. Such delays directly affect box office openings. It is expected that bookings will open in Telangana by 4 PM today, Thursday 4 December.
The situation of Akhanda 2 Hindi version looks even worse. Despite spending crores on promotions such as billboards in Mumbai, full page ads in Hindi newspapers, interviews, and even meeting UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Akhanda 2 has less than 10 shows in Mumbai and zero shows in Delhi. Across the entire Hindi belt, only around 40 to 50 shows are currently scheduled. If this continues, collections for the Hindi version may only be in lakhs, which would be a huge embarrassment for a movie marketed as a pan India project.
