Allu Arjun Repeating the Sukumar Mistake with Atlee?

One of the most highly anticipated films currently in production in India is the upcoming project featuring Allu Arjun and director Atlee. The film has generated massive nationwide buzz, mainly because of its scale.

Reports suggest that Sun Pictures is backing the project with an estimated budget of around Rs. 800 crores, a figure that has sparked intense discussion in trade circles.

While both Allu Arjun and Atlee command strong individual markets, many have questioned whether such a huge budget can be justified at the box office. Some insiders believe the cost could rise further before production wraps up. This led to speculation that the makers might split the film into two parts to reduce risk and maximize returns.

This is becoming common in Indian cinema, especially after the success of Baahubali. Dhurandhar, which was planned as a single film, turned into a two-part project just days before release, as the makers felt one film alone could not achieve the breakeven mark. Even Allu Arjun's own previous blockbuster Pushpa eventually became a two-part franchise. Naturally, rumors suggested the same strategy might be applied here as well.

However, reliable sources close to the project have dismissed these reports. The film is planned as a single part venture. The makers reportedly feel that splitting the story would dilute its intensity and slow the narrative. From a business perspective, they believe the film can generate close to Rs. 1000 crore through theatrical and non theatrical revenue, making a two part format unnecessary.

Time commitment is another key factor. Allu Arjun spent nearly five years on Sukumar's Pushpa franchise and is said to be unwilling to lock himself into another long term two part project. Both he and Atlee reportedly agree that delivering one powerful film is better than stretching the story across multiple weaker parts.

At present, the team is aiming for a release toward the end of next year or in early 2027. Until then, expectations remain extremely high, with the industry closely watching whether this ambitious film can live up to its massive scale and vision.
