The Guntur Special Junior Civil Court ordered 14 days of judicial remand for YSRCP leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu. The case relates to abusive comments made against AP CM Chandrababu Naidu.
Ambati allegedly used cuss words while speaking about the Chief Minister. The remarks shocked Telugu citizens and triggered strong reactions across the state. The incident quickly turned into a political controversy.
On Saturday, Ambati Rambabu made these comments in Gorantla while travelling in his vehicle. The remarks were directed at the police and the CM. This enraged the TDP cadre, who demanded immediate action.
Following the incident, party cadre attacked Ambati's house and office. Two cases were filed by TDP leader Pilli Manikya Rao. Nallapadu SI also filed two separate cases against Ambati.
Police arrested Rambabu in Nallapadu and took him to the government hospital. His sugar levels were checked and an ECG was conducted. He was later produced before the Court.
During the hearing, police lawyers argued that Ambati must be sent to remand. YSRCP counsel Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy claimed Ambati had no role in the case. He stated that the SIT had given a clean chit in the adulterated ghee case.
Ponnavolu alleged that the government put up flexis to provoke YSRCP cadre. He said Ambati only tried to remove the flexis as a responsible citizen. He requested the Court to avoid remand, citing possible seven years of jail.
Ambati told the Court that he was a practising lawyer, MLA, and former minister. He alleged that police raided his house under government pressure. He claimed two SIs admitted the pressure.
Police lawyers countered that Ambati voluntarily used abusive language. They stated that 16 cases were filed earlier for similar behaviour. They argued that granting freedom would affect law and order.
The police requested judicial remand, stating that Ambati would otherwise disrupt public peace. The Court accepted the argument and ordered remand.
