Anasuya, who is now facing criticism over her earlier comments on Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma, has opened up on the issue. She said her words were being deliberately twisted to create negative publicity.
She never had an intention of disrespecting any religion and respects all faiths. She stated that she is a Hindu who follows Sanatana Dharma and has complete faith in her beliefs, values and traditions.
The controversy reportedly stems from an earlier comment in which Anasuya questioned the use of "Jai Shri Ram" slogans by some people while engaging in attacks. Her point, she explained, was that simply chanting a religious slogan means little if a person's actions do not reflect the values associated with that faith.
She also clarified that she was questioning violence carried out in the name of Sanatana Dharma and was not criticising the religion itself.
Despite the clarification, the episode once again shows how quickly Anasuya's statements can turn into social media controversies.
