Tollywood is once again going through a dry spell, with no major film managing to draw large crowds to theatres. Audience turnout has dropped sharply despite several new releases in recent weeks.
Ironically, it is the re-release of Baahubali that brought more people to theatres than any fresh Telugu film lately. This clearly shows what kind of content the Telugu audience still prefers to watch on the big screen.
At this stage, Telugu cinema seems to need a major star-driven film every couple of months to rekindle excitement and bring audiences back to theatres. The industry is facing a saturation point, as most recent films have failed to create much buzz or anticipation.
Now, all eyes are on Nandamuri Balakrishna, who carries the responsibility to revive the festive energy in theatres. His upcoming film Akhanda 2 is expected to bring mass audiences back in huge numbers.
The Telugu audience is craving a solid, entertaining, and high-voltage commercial film exactly what Balakrishna is known for delivering. This formula worked wonders for Akhanda when it released soon after the Covid wave, and a similar atmosphere now surrounds
Given the present scenario, the timing couldn't be better. The big-screen experience combined with Balakrishna's mass appeal is likely to strike gold again. Even with limited promotions, Akhanda 2 is expected to make a strong box office impact when it releases on December 5.
