Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu is pushing efforts to develop the state as a defence and aerospace hub. As part of this push, a new campus of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is set to come up in Anakapalli.
The proposed campus will be spread across 3000 acres. BARC plans to establish a large research & development center at this location. The scale of the project highlights its national importance.
For the project to move forward, diversion of required forest land is needed. Approval must come from an Expert Appraisal Committee under the Union Environment ministry. The process is currently underway.
The upcoming campus is aimed at strengthening India's strategic and scientific capabilities. It will support advanced research in nuclear energy, health, and agriculture. The design and development of small modular reactors will also be part of the focus.
More than 1200 hectares (3000 acres) of revenue land has already been acquired for the BARC facility. This acquisition underlines the size and long-term vision of the project.
The initiative is a strategic project of the Central government. Due to its sensitive nature, the DPR has been kept confidential. Officials are maintaining strict discretion around details.
The proposal includes extensive infrastructure development. Planned works include a perimeter compound wall, zonal security fencing, and patrolling roads.
Additional facilities such as a pump house, watching towers, drains, service lines, and area development works are also part of the plan. These measures reflect the high-security requirements of the campus.
