Betting Apps: Telangana CID Raids in 3 States

Telangana CID launched a major operation against illegal betting apps, conducting raids across Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. This marks a significant step in its crackdown beyond state borders.

The raids covered six locations and led to the arrest of eight people. Officials confirmed the gang was running six betting apps, including Taj 007, Fairplay Live, Andhra 365, VL Book, Telugu 365, and Yes 365.

Authorities say these apps have destroyed families financially, even leading to suicides in extreme cases. The state government has been tightening its actions against operators to curb the growing menace.

Recently, ED sent notices to Tollywood celebrities and influencers who promoted betting apps. This added more pressure on those involved in the illegal business.

During the raids, investigators seized several hardware devices containing massive amounts of data. Efforts are ongoing to track down the main culprits, believed to be abroad.

This is the first time Telangana CID has carried out raids outside the state in such cases. It highlights the scale and seriousness of the illegal betting networks.

In March 2025, CM Revanth Reddy set up a SIT to probe betting apps and online rummy games. He stressed the need for strong action against operators.

Currently, the law prescribes a two-year sentence for illegal betting. Revanth Reddy has indicated tougher punishments are necessary to deter offenders and shut down the apps permanently.
