This year's sleeper blockbuster Munjya has begun streaming on OTT, and the reactions from viewers have been mixed.
The film tells the story of a young man's visit to his native village, where he uncovers a family secret and encounters a vengeful spirit named Munjya who is eager to get married.
The young man then must protect himself and his love from Munjya, leading to a chaotic and humorous adventure.
Now available on Disney Plus Hotstar, Munjya has been praised for its comedy and some horror elements, though the VFX isn't that great. While many find it entertaining and a good way to pass the time, there is puzzlement over why it became such a massive hit, grossing 140 crores worldwide.
The film's concept was solid, but the conclusion could have been better. The climax had the potential to be worse, but it turned out to be satisfactory, similar to how the horror comedy franchise's last film Bhediya wrapped up.
However, it has to be noticed that it's become a trend for some OTT viewers to criticize films that were successful in theaters. They may not realize that the theatrical experience can greatly influence a film's impact, and movies that shine in cinemas might not have the same effect when viewed on a mobile screen.
Despite the mixed OTT reception, Munjya remains a huge winner and serves as a textbook about how to make engaging theatrical films on a small budget and limited resources.
