Tech giants are lining up to set up companies in Vizag, and several are preparing to begin operations soon. Cognizant will perform bhoomi puja for its permanent buildings on December 12 in Kapuluppada.
On the same day, it will start temporary operations in the Mahati Building in Hill 2, Rushikonda. CM Chandrababu will attend as the special guest.
The government allotted 22.19 acres to the company at 99 paise per acre. APIIC took Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority lands from six surveys and handed them over to Cognizant. The final campus is expected to be complete by 2029, marking a major expansion for the tech firm.
Cognizant will invest Rs 1583 crore and provide jobs to 8000 people. The Hill 2 office will employ 800 staff members. The company already operates in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai and Pune, making Vizag its next key location.
The government initially asked Cognizant to begin operations in 2026, but the date did not hold. The company sent an internal letter to employees asking if they were interested in working from Vizag. After receiving strong support, Cognizant decided to begin operations in December.
