The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ended days of speculation by announcing the by-election schedule for the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat.
The poll will be held on November 11, with counting on November 14. The official notification will be issued on October 13.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Maganti Gopinath, a BRS legislator. The BRS has nominated Maganti Sunitha, his widow, as its candidate. Meanwhile, both the Telangana Congress and the Telangana BJP are yet to finalise their nominees as several aspirants are eyeing the ticket. With the election dates confirmed, both parties are expected to announce their candidates soon.
Even before the official schedule, all three major parties had begun campaigning in Jubilee Hills, making it one of the most closely watched political contests in the state.
Separately, the ECI also announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections, which will be held on November 6 and November 11. In addition, by-polls for eight other constituencies across different states will also take place on November 11.
The Commission further stated that a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will soon be taken up in all states and union territories, with specific dates to be announced later.
