Dulquer Salmaan has two films in his upcoming lineup, starting with a Tamil film titled Kaantha. The period drama is reportedly releasing next year and is currently in the production phase.

Meanwhile, the latest reports related to the project have stated that Dulquer will appear as the first superstar of Tamil cinema, M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar.

While the film's storyline and other details remain unknown for now, it is supposed to follow the late actor's association with the Lakshmikanthan case. Notably, an official confirmation is still awaited from the filmmakers.

Lakshmikanthan was a journalist who died after being stabbed in 1944. After an investigation was launched, Thyagaraja was suspected of being involved alongside a few more popular faces. Thyagaraja was eventually taken into custody.

Despite being released later, the legal issue left a negative impact on his career as he became disinterested in films. He was living in poverty by the time he passed away at 49 since he lost his savings while battling to get released from the case.

Portraying the role of such a big personality will undoubtedly leave a positive impression on Dulquer's fans. The film has additionally created headlines as Dulquer is returning to Tamil cinema after a gap of two years.

The film's premise would be set in Madras during the 50s. It is being produced by Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films and also features Rana Daggubati, Samuthirakani, and Bhagyashri Borse among the lead cast members.
