Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on January 9th. However, the release was postponed after delays in receiving the censorship certificate, forcing the makers to approach the CBFC through an emergency legal petition.
Following hearings at the Madras High Court and later the Supreme Court, the Jana Nayagan team withdrew the case. The makers decided to submit the film to the Revising Committee instead, hoping for a smoother resolution to the certification issues.
More than a week has passed without any official update on the censorship certificate or a revised release date. This silence has left Vijay's fans anxious, with many expressing frustration online and criticising KVN Productions for the lack of communication.
According to industry sources, the Revising Committee is expected to watch Jana Nayagan within the week and share its suggestions. If the team agrees and implements the changes, the film could receive its certificate within two weeks and aim for a release before February ends.
If the makers reject the committee's recommendations and return to legal proceedings, the delay could extend further. Some trade experts believe a February release may already be unlikely and suggest the film could release only after the Tamil Nadu state elections.
The Election Commission is expected to announce election dates in early March, activating the Model Code of Conduct. Once that happens, Jana Nayagan cannot be released until the elections conclude, ruling out any theatrical launch beyond February.
Meanwhile, some fans feel an early release could benefit Vijay's political party, TVK, ahead of the 2026 elections. The film is said to carry strong social messages, adding to the political interest around its release timing.
For now, uncertainty remains over whether Jana Nayagan will clear censorship hurdles in time for a February release or be pushed to a later date after the state elections.
