The arrested persons were produced before the court, which imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on each. The police said this is just the beginning, and stricter punishments will follow soon.
Hyderabad's waste problem has worsened over time. Roads and nalas are getting blocked due to garbage, leading to mosquito-borne diseases and unbearable stench, especially during the monsoon season.
The GHMC and police aim to address this with strict enforcement. While some citizens welcome the move, others feel the penalties are too low to bring real change.
Opposition parties have also criticised the government for neglecting public health. Many people feel the authorities should do more to prevent garbage dumping in the first place.
To handle the issue effectively, GHMC and city police have now decided to impose fines on first-time offenders. If the offence is repeated, jail time will follow.
