In a recent interview, Bala addressed a question about why Mamitha Baiju opted out of Vanangaan and the rumors that he allegedly beat her during the shoot. Bala clarified, stating, "She is like a daughter to me. How could I ever beat a girl? These controversies arose because a makeup artist from Mumbai applied makeup on Mamitha Baiju, and I prefer my actresses to appear without makeup in my films."

He elaborated further, explaining that when the scene was ready for shooting, Mamitha Baiju arrived with full makeup, which upset him. Bala admitted, "I raised my hand in anger, but I did not actually hit her."
