Jagan Files Petition for LoP in High Court

Ex-Chief Minister and YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy has filed a petition in the High Court seeking recognition as Leader of Opposition.

The case, heard on Wednesday, was postponed after the court directed the other party to submit a counter. The next hearing is scheduled for October 4.

It is worth recalling that AP Speaker Ayyannapatrudu had ruled on February 5 that Jagan could not be granted LoP status. Jagan approached the court, calling the ruling unlawful. His party secured only 11 seats in the Assembly, while 19 seats are required to claim official opposition status.

The ruling party has repeatedly stated that the rules cannot be changed for one individual. Still, Jagan insists on being recognized as LoP. Since losing the polls, he has stayed away from the Assembly, declaring he will return only if given the LoP position.

Jagan also argues that he should have specific time allocated to raise issues. However, the ruling is clear: he will be treated like any MLA and allotted time accordingly, but he cannot be given the privileges of a recognized opposition leader.
