YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is touring his Pulivendula constituency for the second day. He is accompanied by YS Avinash Reddy, YS Manohar Reddy, Satish Reddy and other YSR Congress leaders.
Earlier today, he visited damaged banana farms in Brahmanapalle and spoke with farmers.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the situation of farmers in AP is dire. He stated that under the coalition government, there is no remunerative price for crops and that banana farmers are suffering even more. He compared it with the past and claimed that farmers received input subsidy during his rule.
He criticised the current government, saying that in 17 months there were 16 disasters, yet farmers did not receive minimum assistance. He alleged that the Chandrababu government had not given a single rupee of input subsidy. He said the situation of farmers in AP has become worse.
During his speech, Jagan made a slip of tongue that turned controversial. While talking about Chandrababu Naidu's promises on crop damage, he said, "రైతులకు నష్ట పరిహారం ఇస్తా అని చంద్రబాబు వెంట వెంటనే ఏదేదో చెప్తాడు…తర్వాత సీన్ కట్… ఏదో గుడిలో లడ్డు అంటూ డైవర్ట్ చేసేస్తాడు".
The casual reference to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam and the Laddu issue shocked many and hurt the sentiments of devotees. Tirumala is considered a sacred shrine for millions and the Laddu carries strong emotional value. His words were seen as reducing it to a casual remark.
YSR Congress leaders are already facing trouble in the Laddu scam. The party approached the Supreme Court, saying it did not trust the CID or the State Government, and a SIT comprising the CBI was appointed. The SIT has confirmed adulteration in the laddu.
Leaders including former TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy, who is Jagan's uncle, are being questioned. With the issue under investigation, many feel Jagan should not have touched the topic. His comments have hurt sentiments of devotees across the globe.
While questioning the government about farmers' issues, critics say Jagan should have avoided sensitive subjects. The remark has sparked widespread criticism and emotional reactions from devotees.
