Jagan earlier tried to avoid the court hearing. He said his visit would burden the state exchequer and offered to attend through video conferencing. The CBI opposed this request.

Fearing the court would view this as evasion, Jagan withdrew his petition seeking exemption. He agreed to attend in person. The timing of the court appearance, however, is seen as unfavourable for him.

Telangana politics has shifted in a way that does not suit the YSR Congress President. BRS has weakened, while Revanth Reddy gained strong control over the Congress after winning the Jubilee Hills By-election. The public bonhomie between CBN and Revanth Reddy at the Ramoji Rao Excellence Awards added to the pressure.

This is Jagan's worst-case scenario. After the 2024 defeat, he moved to Bengaluru, saying he felt insecure in Hyderabad under the Revanth Reddy government. Meanwhile, Sharmila took over his Lotus Pond Residence.

If Jagan must appear in court every Friday, it will become difficult for him. Travelling between Hyderabad, Tadepalli and Bengaluru for political and personal work will be complicated.

Earlier, the High Court gave him exemption due to his Chief Minister duties. Now he is not even the Opposition leader. If the CBI or others move the court to cancel the permission, things may become tougher for him.

If BRS had won the Jubilee Hills By-election, the political climate would be uncertain. In that scenario, Jagan would not feel threatened by Revanth Reddy. But now his position appears vulnerable.

If the Chandrababu Naidu Government names Jagan Mohan Reddy as accused in any case, it may become risky for him to move around Vijayawada or Hyderabad. Telugu media is also preparing for extensive coverage of his appearance at the Nampally CBI Court on the 20th.
