BJP MLA Adinarayana Reddy made a surprise announcement during a tractor rally on GST reforms in Jammalamadugu. Speaking at the event, he revealed that Bhupesh Reddy will contest as the MLA candidate from Jammalamadugu in the 2029 elections.
"I have no plans to contest as an MP or MLA again. I took this decision only to ensure Jagan doesn't return to power," said Adinarayana Reddy, hinting at his retirement from active politics.
Bhupesh Reddy, his brother's son, comes from a political family. His father, Devagudi Narayana Reddy, was a former MLC. Before the 2024 elections, Bhupesh worked as the Jammalamadugu TDP in-charge for over three years. However, the BJP later fielded Adinarayana Reddy from the seat.
Chandrababu Naidu later sent Bhupesh to contest as the Kadapa MP candidate. Though he came close to victory, Sharmila's entry split the votes, allowing Avinash Reddy to retain the seat.
Jammalamadugu, part of the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, was once a TDP stronghold. Adinarayana Reddy first won it in 2004 on a Congress ticket and retained it thrice before losing in 2019 on a BJP ticket. He made a comeback in 2024, winning again for the saffron party.
With his latest announcement, Adinarayana Reddy has made the leadership transition clear, leaving no room for internal politics. The early declaration also gives Bhupesh Reddy enough time to strengthen his base in the constituency and build his image with officials and voters.
Jammalamadugu now looks set to be led by a younger face in 2029.
