Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 was supposed to be a bounce back for the actor after delivering a lineup of flops. While the film opened to a positive response from the audience, the box office numbers are still not up to the mark.
The film has managed to impress the multiplex audiences and the collections are expected to rise by the second weekend, aiming for numbers of somewhere between Rs. 15-20 crores. The overall collections have been Rs. 45 crores until now, and it is a good record, specifically for a film receiving an A certificate.

Kesari Chapter 2 belongs to that genre where films try to deliver entertainment and some information at the same time. Although the film had done both of them, there is a possibility that the restrictions of an A certificate and excessive use of English have put a huge portion of the audience away from it.
The biggest problem right now is that the figures have been in single digits on weekdays. The weekend numbers were comparatively better, specifically on Saturday and Sunday, where the film accumulated Rs. 10 crores and Rs. 11 crores respectively.
Blockbuster Franchise Sinking: Enough is Enough
The film needs to do at least Rs. 85 crores by the second week to remain visible to the general public. Although there is no major competition this week, it remains to be seen if people will be interested in watching it next week, after the release of Raid 2 on May 1, 2025.
Kesari Chapter 2's box office collections are good, but this is not enough, specifically for a star like Akshay Kumar, who once used to pull big crowds, even with films that were made for multiplex audiences.
Are Audiences Failing Kesari: Chapter 2?
Akshay has two more big films releasing this year, including Jolly LLB 3 and Housefull 5. Both have been a part of two successful franchises. But only time will tell if the franchise value will help them make an impact at the box office.
