The TDP and BRS have had deep ideological differences for years. BRS weakened TDP in Telangana, first over the Separate Statehood issue and later during the Cash for Vote controversy.
KCR has often shown hostility toward Chandrababu Naidu and used harsh language on several occasions. The animosity between them is quite evident.
Taking it further, KTR worsened matters after Chandrababu Naidu's arrest with insensitive tweets and public comments. One tweet mentioned that he enjoyed a comedy show by Varun Grover just hours after the arrest. It appeared to mock Chandrababu Naidu and his supporters.
KTR later tried to calm TDP supporters, especially ahead of the 2023 Assembly Elections and the Jubilee Hills By-election. He claimed he never meant to offend anyone.
Recently, during a TV interview, KTR once again addressed the Varun Grover tweet. However, his explanation only invited more criticism. He said, "I was with my family at the show without even taking my security hours after the arrest. I was unaware of the incident and tweeted about the show by coincidence."
But his statement seems misleading. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested on September 9, 2023, while KTR posted the tweet on September 10. That was not "hours after" the arrest as he claimed.
It is hard to believe that KTR could miss such a major political event that dominated both Telugu States. His claim does not sound credible, even if the tweet was made on the same day.
KTR now appears to be attempting to win over Settlers, TDP supporters, and the Kamma community by repeatedly explaining the issue. Yet, his clarification still lacks sincerity.
