After the official announcement of Allu Arjun and Lokesh Kanagaraj's collaboration for AA23, social media has been flooded with speculation.
Several theories began circulating about Lokesh Kanagaraj's priorities and future projects.
Some claimed that Lokesh Kanagaraj dropped Kaithi 2 due to salary issues. According to these rumours, Dream Warrior Pictures allegedly offered him lower remuneration. It was further claimed that he chose AA23 instead, as his fee for the Allu Arjun film is said to be around 75 crores.
Others argued that Lokesh Kanagaraj has shifted his focus away from the LCU. They believe he is now chasing pan-Indian projects by continuously working with superstar actors, moving away from content-driven franchise films.
Amid these claims, Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed the rumours during a press meet. His statements have since gone viral on social media. He firmly denied quitting Kaithi 2 due to salary disputes or shutting down the LCU.
Lokesh Kanagaraj clarified that his next project after Allu Arjun's film will be Kaithi 2. He confirmed that the LCU is very much alive. He stated that Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, and a standalone Rolex film are his committed projects.
He also spoke about a possible collaboration involving Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. Lokesh revealed that he worked on the script for nearly 45 days. Although both actors reportedly liked the plot, they preferred a light-hearted entertainer, leading to creative differences.
Because of this difference in vision, Lokesh Kanagaraj decided to step away from that project and move on to the Allu Arjun film. These revelations added another layer to the ongoing discussion around his career choices.
Following his clarification, reactions have been mixed. Some fans believe the LCU is finally back on track. Others remain sceptical, pointing out that Lokesh had earlier promised to start Kaithi 2 after Leo and repeated the same during Coolie promotions.
In both cases, he eventually chose pan-Indian projects with major stars instead of beginning Kaithi 2. Critics argue that he may repeat the same pattern after AA23.
They also feel that Lokesh Kanagaraj is attempting to regain goodwill after facing online trolling following Leo. According to them, the delay around Kaithi 2 is being justified rather than resolved.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether Lokesh Kanagaraj will finally begin Kaithi 2 after completing Allu Arjun's film or choose another star-driven pan-Indian project instead.
