After making it big in Indian theatrical and OTT releases, Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' was recently released in theaters of China and it gave a wonderful performance there.
According to trade reports, the movie made it to the top ten highest grossing Indian movies in China. Maharaja also overtook Baahubali 2 to be the highest grossing South Indian film in China.
Superstar's Goodbye: Family & Fans Emotional
The movie was released in China on the 29th of November in 2024 in about 40,000 screens, which is a massive number. The phase 2 overseas collection, which is the total China collection, has gone up to 91.65 crores. It missed the hundred crore mark for a bit but is still an unprecedented achievement.
The phase 1 overseas run made almost 25 crores in all, which is a good number too. But the China collection has done wonders. It is now the 10th highest grossing Indian film in China.
Vishal's Pathetic Condition: Director Responsible?
In the list are movies like Dangal at no. 1 with a total of 1305.29 crores, Secret superstar at no. 2 with 757.1 crores. Other movies are Andha Dhun, Bajrang Bhaijaan, Mom, PK etc. And Maharaja is the only South Indian film there.
Nithilan Saminathan and Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja has had a wonderful domestic and overseas run and its success will pave the way for many other South Indian movies to make it big in China and other countries.
