Telugu film director Nandini Reddy, one of the few well-known female filmmakers in the industry, recently spoke about women's issues in an interview.
Known for films like Oh Baby, Anni Manchi Sakunamule, and Kalyana Vaibhogame, she shared strong views on safety and freedom.
She said she has consistently tried to portray strong and independent women through her feel-good films. However, she added that the current situation in the country makes her feel that it is not safe for women.
Nandini Reddy pointed out that despite several brutal crimes against women, many culprits walk free without serious punishment. Referring to the Unnao case, she said the system has become so weak that women are forced to restrict their own freedom to feel safe.
She also criticised celebrities who choose silence over speaking against injustice. According to her, many well-known personalities avoid raising their voice as they fear it may affect their future prospects.
Calling out certain remarks from Telugu industry figures, she questioned advice given to women about wearing "decent clothes". She said such comments shift blame onto women instead of addressing real issues.
When asked why she appears to be one of the few voices speaking up, Nandini Reddy said the issue should not be viewed narrowly. She explained that industry behaviour often reflects broader social trends in the country.
Fans and viewers have praised her for openly expressing her opinions. Many have commended her courage and honesty in addressing sensitive issues without hesitation.
