On Saturday, Nayanthara shared an open letter criticizing Dhanush for sending her a lawsuit over using footage from his production company's film in her upcoming documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.
Shortly after this, an old video resurfaced from the 2016 Filmfare Awards South. In it, Nayanthara won the Best Actress - Tamil award for her role in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film produced by Dhanush.

During her acceptance speech, Nayanthara jokingly apologized to Dhanush, saying, "Thank you Dhanush for initiating NRD, and I have to say I am sorry also. Dhanush absolutely hated my performance in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. Sorry Dhanush for disappointing you with my performance. I'll probably make it better next time."
Dhanush, sitting in the audience, smiled but didn't respond. The film, starring Vijay Sethupathi, was produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films.
