According to Karan, the film and its debutants Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor became easy targets for the critics and the audience just because of their Bollywood connection and him.
He recently appeared on Galatta Media's YouTube channel and stated that the negativity wasn't just about the film but about a larger bias against anything Dharma Productions does.
Karan points out that while people celebrate films like All We Imagine As Light, they ignore the fact that Dharma's Homebound made it to the Cannes Film Festival-a huge achievement. He feels that film intellectuals and critics are quick to attack Dharma but stay silent when the company does something good.
Karan also defends his young actors saying just because Ibrahim and Khushi come from a privileged background doesn't mean they don't have feelings. "They also have hearts," he says, frustrated that people enjoy "nepo bashing" and criticising everything he touches.

He compares the hate for Nadaaniyan to the criticism of Hollywood's The Kissing Booth-a film people moved on from quickly, unlike the ongoing attacks on his work. Despite all the hate, Karan says he won't stop making films.
With Homebound now getting international recognition, maybe it's time for the critics to judge Dharma's work more fairly and look beyond the people involved.
