Netflix seems to be making changes in its cancellation UI and people are not very happy with it. The platform changed the direct cancellation button to a more discreet button.
The cancellation is now through a hidden drop down button.
The previous button and system was easier to locate for users but the new system is bringing confusion to people. There are some users who could not cancel their plans immediately and so were compelled to carry on with the subscription for one more month.
But Netflix is an international platform with huge trust and repute and it is not known for tricking subscribers into keeping subscribing to their plans.
No OTT platform makes the cancellation button very visible because at the end of the day they do not intend that users opt for it. And Netflix kept the button discreet and away from the front for that reason.
But the anger of users is also justified. But they are not tricked or cheated with this change. But it is more concerned with their knowledge of the options available to them and how to use them.
The recent action by Netflix India to suppress the cancel button has attracted a lot of backlash, particularly from customers who accidentally suffered auto-renewal fees. While this modification in user interface may be in cursor's with the rest of the industry, the lack of accountability is still a prevailing concern.
Like other platforms, Netflix has grown dependent on subscriptions, but it is clear that as with everything else, cracking down on cancellations is more a means of making money than offering customer service. People who ignore the update regarding the cancel button on Netflix India might have to pay an extra month of subscription surprisingly.
To safeguard themselves from being charged unnecessarily, paying customers should make an effort to set their accounts correctly and make sure they follow the right procedure to cancel. If annoyance keeps increasing, it is possible that Netflix will have to think about the changes in the interface design to be able to appease users from India.
