But early reviews are saying it's not living up to the hype.Set in an alternate 1990s, The Electric State follows Michelle (Brown), an orphaned teenager, as she travels with a robot and a drifter (Pratt) to find her missing brother.
With a $320 million budget, this is one of Netflix's most expensive films. Originally developed by Universal Pictures, Netflix took over the project in 2022 and filming took place in Atlanta in 2022 and 2023.

It premiered on February 24, 2025 at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre. Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings are yet to be revealed but initial reviews from major outlets have been pretty negative.
The Guardian called it "a soulless digital experience" and said it was poorly executed while The Times said it was "a turgid eyesore" and relied too heavily on CGI.

With so much invested, Netflix is hoping The Electric State will still resonate with audiences.
Some will still be drawn to the stars and the visuals but we'll have to wait and see if it's a sci-fi classic or a big misfire when it drops March 14, 2025.
