The rivalry between India and Pakistan needs no introduction. Since 1947, both neighbouring countries have been fierce opponents. However, many now feel that Canada, not Pakistan, is becoming India's biggest enemy.

On Monday, India expelled six Canadian diplomats and announced that it would also pull back its high commissioner and other key officials from Canada.

Tensions reached peak level between the two countries after Canada accused Indian agents and diplomats were involved in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Meanwhile, several foreign policy experts have linked India's worsening relations with Canada to its age-old tension with Pakistan. They pointed out that the relationship between India and Canada is hitting a low point due to these serious allegations against one another, the expelling of senior diplomats, and harsh language in government statements.

India's main concern is that Canada is protecting and supporting anti-India extremists. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's comments on India's internal matters, such as farmers' protests and agricultural laws, have also upset India.

After Canadian diplomats were expelled, Trudeau said that despite Canada's efforts, India's response has been to deny, deflect, and attack him and the Canadian government's integrity.
