On Monday, India expelled six Canadian diplomats and announced that it would also pull back its high commissioner and other key officials from Canada.

Tensions reached peak level between the two countries after Canada accused Indian agents and diplomats were involved in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Meanwhile, several foreign policy experts have linked India's worsening relations with Canada to its age-old tension with Pakistan. They pointed out that the relationship between India and Canada is hitting a low point due to these serious allegations against one another, the expelling of senior diplomats, and harsh language in government statements.
