A horrific murder case of an Indian-origin woman in London has presented a grim reality about women's safety in society. 24-year-old Harshita Brella was found dead in the boot of a car in East London and the prime suspect is her husband Pankaj Lamba.

The victim was under a Domestic Violence Protection Order since September, yet neighbors heard her arguing and screaming days before her death. Shockingly, many of them dismissed it as a frivolous relationship argument despite one account suggesting she sounded scared.

Now, over 60 detectives are working on the case, piecing together her final moments. Police believe the husband has fled the country, pointing more fingers at the system's failure.

Despite being legally "protected" Harshita was only offered hollow promises of safety. The casual behavior of her neighbors also presents a wider problem of not reporting domestic violence cases around us and treating them as "private" issues.
