Paid Premieres: Will Telangana Clear Chiranjeevi & Prabhas?

Paid Premieres: Will Telangana Clear Chiranjeevi & Prabhas?

Megastar Chiranjeevi is getting ready to return to the box office after a gap of almost three years. After the disastrous result of Bholaa Shankar, Chiranjeevi took a long break.

Now, he is back to entertain audiences with his new film Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu. The expectations around this film are high because it is directed by Anil Ravipudi, who is a proven brand among the masses when it comes to entertainment, and Venkatesh is playing a special role. Since the film is releasing during the Sankranthi festival season, trade circles believe it has the potential to become a big success.

The movie is scheduled for release on Monday, January 12. As is common with big-ticket films these days, paid premiere shows will be screened one day earlier. These special shows usually come with higher ticket prices. However, since Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu is said to be a clean family entertainer, the makers are reportedly planning to keep the premiere ticket rates reasonable.

For comparison, Balakrishna's Akhanda 2 had premiere ticket prices set at around Rs. 600. Despite the heavy competition during Sankranthi and strong buzz for Chiranjeevi's film, the team is said to be opting for relatively lower premiere prices to attract family audiences. In Andhra Pradesh, approvals for special shows and pricing are usually routine, so permissions are expected without much trouble. However, the situation in Telangana remains uncertain.

In Telangana, special shows and increased ticket prices have become controversial. Legal cases and government hesitation have created complications. At the same time, Prabhas's Sankranthi release The Raja Saab is also planning paid premieres and is reportedly aiming for ticket prices around Rs. 800.

Other Sankranthi releases may not receive permission for extra pricing. The key question now is whether Telangana authorities will allow paid premieres and higher rates for these two big films. Trade sources believe that if permission is granted to The Raja Saab, then Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu will also get approval. Otherwise, both films may have to go without paid premieres in Telangana. The final decision is expected in the coming days.
