Fishermen had earlier complained about industrial pollution contaminating seawater, which reduced fish stocks and affected livelihoods along the coast. They urged the government to act quickly to curb marine pollution and sought ₹1.5 lakh compensation per family.

The issue was brought to CM Chandrababu Naidu, who has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
