Hyderabad-based lawyer Karupothula Revanth has filed a petition in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the auction of Hyderabad Central University ( HCU) land.
Over the past few weeks the auction of verdant, biodiverse lands of HCU for industrial development by the Telangana government, has led to furore among students and environmentalists. Despite strong opposition, the state government remains adamant and has in fact claimed that the land belonged to the state government on Tuesday.

In response, lawyer Revanth has filed a petition with NGT in Chennai to intervene urgently and stop the auction and protect the land rich in flora and fauna, not to forget natural rock formations.
Lawyer Revanth rued that instead of protecting the environment, the state government was mercilessly destroying the lush green trees and rich biodiversity under the garb of industrial development.

He put forth the argument that the 400-acre land in Kancha Gachibowli was home to a variety of flora and fauna. It acted as an ecological balance and a natural relief against the increasing pollution in Hyderabad.
Revanth said razing such environmentally significant areas is short-sighted and harmful. Revanth reaffirmed his commitment to fight for the land legally through NGT till the auction is stopped.
