Works on Polavaram project's Diaphragm wall will be resumed during this month. The project authority is looking at completing maximum work before the onset of rainy season.

The AP government is looking at completing the works by December 2026. One of the main reasons for the delay is a decision on the concrete mix that will be used for the wall. Currently, the govt is pondering on four types of concrete mixes.

Incidentally, work on the wall were supposed to start from January 2, 2025, but the Central water commission and a foreign delegation will have to make a final decision on the mix.

Already the design for the wall has been approved in principle. One of concrete mixes is being tested in Tirupati IIT. Another mix is the one that has already been used.

Another three mixes need approval too. The test results are likely to come by Jan 5 after which the central water commission and the foreign delegation will take a final call.

An online meeting will be held any day after Jan 5 including central water commission, foreign delegation, Polavaram officials and Polavaram Authority.

Already the AP government has readied all machinery and allied requirements to start work immediately after concrete mix approval.

A 500mt platform has been constructed to hold the machinery and 400 Mt guidewall has also been constructed.

A lab that would check every 15 days is also in place. Staff of German group Bauer has also reached the location. A decision has been made for a 20-hour work day till the completion of the Diaphragm wall.
