Prabhas upcoming lineup is a curious case of immense hype, sky high business, and scary risks. Everyone agrees that his market expanded drastically after Baahubali.
The scale at which every new film of his is generating business remains astonishing. Prabhas currently has five major projects in hand. Each is backed by a massive budget and equally massive trade expectations. When you look at the numbers circulating within distribution circles, the scale feels almost unreal.
The first among these is The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi. The buzz around the film is not up to the mark. Trade experts still expect pre-release business of around Rs. 350 crores.
Next comes Fauzi, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. His elegant and emotional filmmaking combined with Prabhas mass aura is trying to create hype. Early estimates place the films business potential at approximately Rs. 500 crores.
The real gamble lies in the remaining three films. Salaar 2 from Prashanth Neel will ride heavily on the decent success of part 1. Because of that momentum, distributors predict business in the Rs. 800 crore range.
Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has sparked a different level of hype altogether. Vangas pan India appeal plus Prabhas stardom has led trade analysts to believe that pre release business could easily touch Rs. 1000 crores.
Then comes the biggest project Kalki 2. The first installment performed very well across the world. Part 2 is expected to exceed those numbers. Trade estimates indicate that Kalki 2 could achieve nearly Rs. 1200 crores in pre release business.
When you combine all five films, analysts estimate a total business value of Rs. 4000 crores. For a single actors upcoming slate to command this scale is unprecedented in Indian cinema.
This extraordinary market comes with extraordinary risk. At such valuation levels, even one underperforming film can create massive losses for distributors. These numbers are achievable only when the content and execution match the hype created by these big combinations.
The trade community is now watching closely. They want to see whether Prabhas can justify this colossal 4000 crore market and deliver films that satisfy both audiences and the buyers who have invested so heavily in him.
