The Center has made its stand clear saying that the census done by state governments are mere surveys, done for political gains. So the question arises about their validity and doubts are being expressed that these 'surveys' will be done away with. Many are wondering if the earlier surveys will be counted or if fresh census will be carried out for the whole country.

Vaishnaw had said that census was a union subject. He also said there was no transparency in surveys done by Telangana, Karnataka and Bihar. For the survey, aadhar, voter and ration card details will be taken. People's social, education, employment, financial and political opportunities will be collected and a report will be prepared. This report has to be approved by the Cabinet. Only then will the census be valid.
