Amit continued by saying that Sholay was copied from Mera Gaon Mera Desh, which also had Dharmendra playing one of the leads. He additionally stated that the basic premise was the same where the main characters battle against a dacoit after being pursued by someone else.
On the other hand, Amit claimed that the characters of Gabbar Singh and the retired police officer were directly taken from Mera Gaon Mera Desh, where Vinod Khanna appeared as Jabbar Singh. There was also a retired soldier whose hand was cut off.
