While competition for more box office collections is something that has existed since the beginning of the film industry, the competition has now started taking over the shows of different OTT platforms.
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, people have habituated themselves to watching different web series featuring the most popular faces. Meanwhile, the latest viewership records have revealed that Taaza Khabar Season 2 was watched by the highest number of people, with the figure reaching 5.2 million.
The comedy thriller premiered through Disney+ Hotstar in January last year and the latest season was released in April 2024. It features Bhuvan Bam playing one of the leads.
On the other hand, Taaza Khabar was followed by The Rings of Power in the second position alongside The Great Indian Kapil Show in the third. Vikrant Massey's Sector 36 managed to grab the sixth spot and the last position was taken by Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam, the Tamil remake of Panchayat.
Blockbuster OTT Sequel Gets Disaster Response
Considering that Taaza Khabar has achieved the highest viewership on Indian OTT platforms this year, it has opened similar opportunities for upcoming web series in the next few months.
While a section of the public was disappointed with the third seasons of Mirzapur and Panchayat, the figures recorded by Taaza Khabar are expected to pull more viewers to the small screens. However, it remains to be seen if those particular shows can break the record made by Taaza Khabar.
