Tamil BO: Disaster First Half, Better Second Half

Tamil BO: Disaster First Half, Better Second Half

Mirchi 9 1 year ago

In the first half of this year in Kollywood, only three movies were notable hits, which were Lover, Aranmanai-4, and Blue Star. After Maharaja, Tamil cinema is back on track with back-to-back hits and blockbusters.

Meiyazhagan: TN Government Targets Vijay?

The first half of the year was really bad for Tamil cinema, as popular movies such as Lal Salaam, Ayalaan, and Captain Miller didn't satisfy the expectations of the audiences and didn't perform well in the Box Office collections.

Maharaja, which was released on 14th June, was a tremendous success and has collected more than 100 crores at the global box office. This movie started the boom factor of Kollywood.

Sai Pallavi's Comeback: Worth The Long Wait?

After this star-driven movies such as Dhanush's Raayan and Vijay's The Greatest Of All Time were released, while both movies acquired mixed responses, they did wonders in the Box Office collections in Tamilnadu.

Apart from this content-oriented movie, there were also scores of big movies such as Vaazhai, Kottukkaali, Lubber Pandhu, and now Meiyazhagan. All these movies acquired huge appreciation from the audiences and also became theatrical hits.

This proves that Tamil cinema audiences were ready to celebrate the content-driven movies in theatres and also the star-driven movies.

Still, three more months left in this year, and many biggies are gearing up for releases such as Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, Suriya's Kanguva, Sivakarthikeyan's Amaran, and Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai Part-2.

Although Tamil cinema is booming with different genres of movies, there isn't any pan-Indian hit movie for Kollywood this year. Hope the upcoming movies in Kollywood, contents click among the other state audiences and also bring the only remaining pan-India hit for Kollywood this year.
