A controversial programme aired by NTV has triggered strong reactions in Telangana. The show targeted a few women IAS officers and made serious allegations about their professional postings and personal conduct.
The programme alleged an inappropriate or romantic link between a senior minister and a woman IAS officer. It claimed to present phone calls and WhatsApp chats as proof, raising questions about authenticity and intent.
The channel further alleged that women IAS officers received so-called comfort postings within a short period. It implied these postings were due to favoritism or undue influence rather than merit or established administrative procedures.
Following the broadcast, cases were registered against NTV and several digital media platforms. Articles and programmes related to the issue also came under scrutiny from law enforcement agencies.
The IAS Officers' Association took serious exception to the content. The association said the coverage was derogatory, harmed the officers' reputation, and affected morale within the administrative system.
Representatives of the association filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Police. They sought strict action against channels accused of spreading false and unverified information.
Based on the complaint, Cyber Crime Police registered cases against NTV, other digital media organisations, and multiple YouTube channels. Police said publishing content about a woman officer without primary evidence is unlawful.
An investigation is underway to trace the origin of the viral posts and identify those who amplified them on social media. Authorities have also initiated the process of issuing notices to the organisations involved.
The IAS Officers' Association warned that dragging officers' personal lives into public debate for political or viewership gains is unacceptable. Senior officials stated that strict action will follow against those misusing freedom of expression.
