The Telugu OTT space has been running short of action of late. Recent biggie Kalki which debuted on Amazon couldn't generate much traction dispute the star presence.
6-8 Week OTT Demand: Back Again, Will It Last?
The last superstar films that go any reception on OTT are Guntur Kaaram and Salaar which were released in close vicinity. Thereafter, not a single Telugu film could rule the roost.
After a while, we now have NTR's Devara which is up for theatrical debut on the 27th of this month. It is reported that the OTT debut of this film could be at least 50 days post that.
Netflix In Trouble For Shocking Criminal Activities!
Lack of commercial appeal cost Kalki on OTT and this is a fact. But in the case of Devara, the film is promoted as a slick action drama with high octane action.
Though Koratala is a subtle director, he has the panache to script-winning action blocks, as was seen in his earlier films Mirchi and Janatha Garage. If he can scale it up further and deliver enough action blocks in Devara, it would vastly help the film's prospects on OTT as well.
Netflix paid a fancy price for Devara and it is essential that the NTR starrer generates enough traction for OTT giants to continue investing big in Telugu.
